I just spend a whole class period looking for something that was right in photoshop. Mo challenged me to put a pop-up window in my website for when someone clicked on the picture of my fake digital yearbook. I searched google trying to find a code that didn't need javascript and I couldn't find one. Just as I was giving up, I realized what the boxes in slice options meant. This is my understanding of them:
Name > that's just the slice name. You should name it something other than "slice 35" so that you can keep track of them without getting confused. This way, if you need to edit one of them, you don't need to try and figure out which slice went with which image. You can just Ctr. F and search the source for the name like "yearbook".
URL > this is where you put the url of where you want the slice to link to. On a source page, it will look like href="http://www.whatever.com"
Target > this is what saved my life. In Target you put the frame where you want the link to load into. For a pop-up window, new window.
Message Text > Whatever you type in will appear in the browser status bar.
The Alt Tag is the alternate text for the browser in case the image can't show up.
To access these Slice Options, just right click a slice using the slice tool.
